29 Oct The EURBG Annual Meeting 2026
The EURBG Annual Meeting 2026 took place on June 12–13, 2026, at the Auditorium of Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in Rome, Italy. Around 70 speakers presented and discussed a wide range of up-to-date topics in retinoblastoma. The congress drew strong participation from the international retinoblastoma community and was a great success, offering a valuable opportunity for scientific exchange, collaboration and sharing of experiences among experts.
The congress was organised by Dr Antonino Romanzo and Dr Paola Valente, with the valuable support of EURBG Chairs Dr Ashwin Reddy and Dr Petra Ketteler, whose contribution was instrumental to the success of the meeting.
The first day’s programme included sessions on diagnosis and neonatal screening, highlighting the importance of early detection for improving patient outcomes. It also featured a keynote lecture by Professor Francis Munier on “Conservative management of retinoblastoma: lessons learned during the last decade”. The programme continued with presentations from eight EURBG working groups, who shared their latest results and ongoing activities.
On the second day, the meeting featured an outstanding symposium led by interventional radiologists, focusing on the indications for and complications of intra-arterial chemotherapy. Leading European experts shared and compared their experiences, providing valuable insights into this important aspect of retinoblastoma management. Further sessions addressed conservative treatments, local treatments strategies, metastatic disease and genetics, giving participants a comprehensive overview of current developments in the field.
Participants also received a welcome message from Professor Carol Shields, who congratulated the organisers and wished everyone a successful congress.
Alongside the scientific programme, a special activity was organised for the families of children affected by retinoblastoma. The children enjoyed an afternoon snack and games, including the chance to ride in sports cars, a memorable experience that added an important human dimension to the congress.
The congress also offered an opportunity for social interaction and networking. It concluded with a delightful dinner at a beautiful location with a spectacular view of Rome, accompanied by music directed by the mother of a child affected by retinoblastoma
